Significant progressive inclusion of women can be seen, tracing back to independence days when women leadership was minimal and less recognized. Over the years, empowerment efforts have breathed new life into the essence of gender equality, which forms a strong fabric to our democracy. Within this tapestry of progress, YWLC stands as a strategic enabler, dedicating itself to nurturing, encouraging and supporting, particularly young women to thrive and seize political leadership positions.

Young women have far too long had to bear the double-faceted stereotyping based on gender and age, and this has limited their active and meaningful participation in leadership. There’s still minimal mentorship of young women into the national political landscape. YWLC is cognisant of the several barriers hindering meaningful participation of young women in politics and through its unwavering commitment, it has tailored the Leadership and Governance program to bridge the intergenerational gap by providing a platform for sharing and learning from lived experiences of seasoned women leaders. Through capacity building on pertinent leadership issues, young women are emboldened to take charge and create lasting change.

Conversations are shifting towards inclusion of youth and women. Young women are more daring to vie for political positions, engage actively in political parties and contribute significantly to discourse that shape public opinion and policies. The youths bring with them a unique perspective, creative ideas and a voice that echoes hope and dreams. YWLC understands this power and is committed to harness this to amplify the voices of young women leaders and increase their visibility and capacity, and consequently their representation.
